2018 Isuzu NQR vs Hino 195
In some respects the 2018 Isuzu NQR is the flagship model of the current Isuzu LCF truck family, but it faces some stiff competition among commercial vehicles. When you’re buying something like this, it’s going to be an important and integral part of your business. Getting your decision wrong isn’t an option. Hino is one of Isuzu’s main competitors in this class, so let’s see how the NQR shapes up against the Hino 195.
ENGINES
For the most part, diesel is king when it comes to engines, and both the Isuzu and the Hino have diesel powerplants. In the case of the Hino 195, it’s a 5.0-liter four-cylinder diesel producing a maximum 200 horsepower at 2,500 rpm and an impressive 440 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,500 rpm. That’s enough torque to handle some serious work, but it’s not quite enough to match what comes in the Isuzu NQR. The Isuzu is packing a 5.2-liter turbodiesel which generates 215 horsepower at 2,500 rpm and 452 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,850 rpm. It’s not a massive difference in favor of the Isuzu but it’s certainly enough to give it the win here.
TRANSMISSIONS
As these are real workhorses, the transmissions are more important here than they are in passenger vehicles. And among commercial diesel trucks, one name is king: Aisin. It’s therefore no surprise that both Isuzu and Hino utilize an Aisin A465 six-speed automatic. It’s smooth, efficient, and extremely durable. Obviously, there’s no difference between vehicles here.
CAPABILITY
Both the Isuzu and Hino come in a number of different wheelbases and configurations, so we’ll compare the two by maximum capabilities. The maximum GVWR of the Hino 195 is an impressive 19,500 pounds and the maximum GCWR is 25,500 pounds. The Isuzu falls short of those numbers, but only just with a GVWR of 17,950 pounds and a GCWR of 23,950 pounds, so this comparison has to go to the Hino.
WHEELBASES
Both models are available in standard cab and double cab variants and with a wide variety of different wheelbases, but the available lengths can be vital for finding the right truck for your needs. There’s a little more versatility with the NQR as it’s available with wheelbases 109 to 200 inches, while the range of wheelbases with the Hino is 114 to just 185 inches.
