2018 Isuzu FTR: Work Truck Magazine Truck of the Year
Work Truck named the 2018 Isuzu FTR the Medium-Duty Truck of the Year. This is Isuzu’s third win since the magazine issued the first annual award 11 years ago. The Class 6 FTR collected the award at this year’s Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.
Shaun Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America (ICTA), accepted the award, saying: “Thank you to all the readers of Work Truck magazine for this honor for the third time in six years. We’re all very proud of the all-new Class 6 Isuzu FTR, and this year’s honor is particularly rewarding for us since the FTR is not your typical Class 6 truck.”

To select a winner, professional fleet managers voted for the best medium-duty truck via an online ballot. The FTR was nominated over nine competitors. When voting, fleet managers were asked which model was best suited to their fleet requirements, delivering the most in durability, effectiveness, quality, servicing, maintenance, and lifestyle costs.
Under the hood, the FTR features a 5.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. Its six-speed automatic transmission includes power take-off capability, so you can transfer power to on-the-job equipment, like a jackhammer. With eight wheelbases to choose from, you can create an FTR that’s anywhere from 14 to 30 feet long. The FTR is also known for its excellent forward visibility, helping you get around corners as safely as possible. Depending on wheelbase, this truck has a turning diameter between 43.7 and 65 feet, giving drivers the maneuverability they need in urban spaces.
The combination of the FTR’s low-cab-forward design and turbocharged four-cylinder engine supplies both impressive maneuverability and fuel economy. And these features certainly haven’t gone unnoticed among fleet managers, who selected the FTR over its fellow medium-duty trucks.
“We are confident it will be the truck of the future,” Skinner said. “We are excited to see that the readers of Work Truck share that same confidence and voted the Isuzu FTR as Medium-Duty Truck of the Year.”
