2018 Isuzu FTR
The Isuzu FTR is one of the most powerful and capable models in Isuzu's current range of Low Cab Forward trucks, a game-changer for raising the standard for Class 6 medium-duty trucks.
WHAT IS AN ISUZU FTR?
Combining excellent maneuverability and visibility that makes it great for operating in the tight confines of the city, as well as the ability to carry more cargo than a conventional Class 6 GVWR truck with the same wheelbase, the FTR really is in a class of its own. Despite its size and capability, its four-cylinder diesel engine is also environmentally friendly thanks to its outstanding fuel efficiency.
WHY BUY THE FTR?
You need to look at buying the FTR if you have need of a truck that can be upfitted to suit your exact requirements. The FTR is an especially good choice if you're going to be driving on tight city streets in the course of your business. One of the Isuzu FTR's biggest strengths is forward visibility, which a conventional truck cab simply can't match.
The versatility of the FTR platform is extensive, and not just in terms of all the different ways it can be outfitted by specialists in your particular field. Eight different wheelbases can accommodate upfitted bodies from 14 to 30 feet, and payload capacities can handle increased customer needs.
HOW CAN THE FTR BE UPFITTED?
One of the most common ways you'll see an FTR upfitted is with a large rectangular box on the back. Of course, what that box can do and what it has inside is an entirely different matter, depending on the user's application and needs. Of course, the box can always be configured as a normal cargo space, refrigerated, or even be a freezer inside.
That's just the start of the possibilities though, and the FTR can also be fitted with a flatbed for transporting cargo such as vehicles, plant, machinery, or cargo that doesn't need the protection of a container. As long as you stay within the confines of the size and weight restrictions, how your FTR is upfitted is pretty much dependant only on your requirements and budget.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FTR AND OTHER ISUZU TRUCKS?
Although the basic format of the FTR as an LCF is the same as other Isuzu trucks, the FTR is where buyers go when they need the biggest and heaviest applications. If you require the most capability the Isuzu LCF trucks have to offer, it's time to turn to the FTR.
As you might expect, there are no gas engine options for the FTR, so the engine it comes with is a 5.2-liter turbocharged and intercooled diesel. This particular unit produces 215 horsepower, but the real capability comes from the 520 lb.-ft. of torque it produces at as low as 1,600 rpm. The GVWR of the FTR is 25,950 pounds, the GCWR is 30,000 pounds, and the body and payload allowance is between 14,641 and 15,690 pounds.
